UMH Libraries receives the Breaking Barriers Award for the BIBac project
16 October 2024
The Chair of Accessibility and Inclusive Environment ‘Francisco Carreño Castilla’ of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche and the Asisa Foundation will present the Francisco Carreño 2024 Awards on 16 October, as part of the celebration of the International White Cane Day.
The event will be held at 6pm in the Salón de Grados of the Valona building of the UMH Elche campus, where various individuals and entities will be recognised for their outstanding work in promoting inclusion and the elimination of barriers for people with disabilities and/or at risk of social exclusion.
The Breaking Barriers 2024 distinction will recognise the BIBac Project: Accessible Libraries, whose objective is ‘to improve accessibility for all people with functional diversity, whether they are members of the university community or not’, making available to them the available resources and specific support products.
Thanks to the synergies established between the UMH Library Service, and its four branches on the UMH campuses, with the Chair itself, the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Transfer and the Disability Support Unit, ‘progress has been made in the application of the rights recognised in the regulations for the inclusion of people with disabilities at UMH’.
