BIBac Project is a co-working initiative between the Vice-rectorships of Inclusion, Sustainability and Sports (through the Disability Support Unit) and the Vice-rectorate of Research of the UMH, (through the LIBRARY service), and thanks to the invaluable support of the Francisco Carreño Chair, whose presentation took place last Wednesday, July 6th in the newspaper library of the Library of the Altabix Building and where the annual event on October 15th on the international occasion of the White Cane has already begun to take shape.
The general objective of this project is to make the UMH libraries accessible, making possible the use of this service to all students and thus offering a better educational quality. The target population is the university community of the UMH, but it will also be open to the entire population of the city of Elche, being the Miguel Hernández University, through the Library, the one that provides service to this sector of the population.
Materials have been acquired for accessibility to the paper bibliography (ONCE TV magnifying glass), adapted furniture, as well as elements that guarantee digital accessibility to the computers for free use, where they have been equipped with accessible free software:
- Windows zoom magnifier
- Voice reading Windows
- NVDA
- Head-operated mouse
- Contrast keypad with cover for easy typing
- Optimum joystick mouse
- Optimum TrackBall mouse
- Personal magnetic loop
This project improves accessibility for people with visual, hearing, physical and even cognitive disabilities, as the signage in the library areas has also been improved.
