Transformative Agreements
The Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities-CRUE has closed negotiations at national level with the publishers Elsevier, Wiley, Springer and ACS to reach transformative agreements for all Spanish universities, as is being done in different European countries. The aim is to transform the current subscription contracts into agreements that guarantee open access to articles authored by researchers, thus allowing the research community of universities and CSIC to have access to these articles.
- Crue and CSIC have signed an agreement with Elsevier that will allow the publication of articles by Spanish researchers in open access https://www.crue.org/2021/03/convenio-crue-csic-eselvier/ This agreement affects a total of 58 universities and the CSIC, responsible for more than 70% of scientific production in Spain. Thus, until December 31, 2024, members of these Spanish institutions will be able to continue accessing information from ScienceDirect's 1,800 journals and will also be able to publish a percentage of the proposed articles in open access at no additional cost during 2021.
- Crue and CSIC sign a transitional agreement with Wiley to promote open access in Spain. https://www.crue.org/2021/04/crue-csic-wiley-acuerdo-acceso-abierto-en-espana/. The agreement will allow researchers at participating institutions to access both Wiley journals and publish accepted open access articles in Wiley's hybrid journals that include both subscription and open access content.
The Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) have formalized an open access publishing agreement with Springer Nature from 2021 to 2024 inclusive. The transformative open access publishing agreement will significantly increase the visibility and impact of Spanish research worldwide.

- Only hybrid + Full Open Access journals can be published with APCs, with the exception of the journal ACS Omega.

Crue Accession Agreement with IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)
- Duration: accession agreement for three years, 2023-2025.
